DIY Valentino Inspired Clutch

Back in May, I was looking through the couture runway shows and this rhinestoned clutch from the Valentino Couture Spring Summer 2021 caught my eye. I zoomed in on a chic gold and white look to find a similar bag to the one pictured on the left and I knew I wanted to recreate it for upcoming holiday parties

I had a surprisingly difficult time finding a foldover clutch in the same style (at a reasonable price for a DIY), so I ended up using an envelope style clutch. I did find several of the right shape on Poshmark, but they all had sequins or studs or something that would keep me from being able to add rhinestones. If you want to try this project, I would check resale sites first, but I couldn’t find anything quite right at the time.

You Will Need:

  • Foldover Clutch Style Bag (I used this one)

  • Large Clear Rhinestones

  • E-6000 Glue or GemTac (the clear-drying kind, not the white kind— oops)

Instructions:

Like many of my tutorials, the instructions for this project are simple— glue on some rhinestones!

You’ll want to start with your larger stones, placing them as close together as possible. Finding the right spacing takes a little bit of effort. Like a very sparkly game of Tetris. I filled in any of the larger gaps with smaller stones. Be careful to pay attention to where your clutch opens and closes so that you don’t take away from the functionality of your bag. Also, make sure that you buy the right kind of glue so that you aren’t surprised when your glue dries white instead of disappearing clear like you expected. OOPS. Allow your glue to set according to the instructions on the package and you’re all done.

This bag is perfect touch of sparkle to dress up an outfit for a holiday or New Year’s Eve party. I love how the rhinestones make such a statement with the amount of sparkle they give off reflecting off of each other!
